What a cute dog!!!

I am battling the housing authority (or at least that's what it feels like) because they are telling me that in order to get PET, I have to get a note from my doctor and fill out a reasonable accommodation form (but a doctor's note and accomodation form makes it a service animal, not a pet).

Hope you are doing well... drop me a line sometime. *hug*

Emotional Support Animals are also allowed in housing. They are not service animals and are not trained for tasks.

A quick google showed this page to describe the differences ok.

Thanks for the info. I know that there is a difference and that was what the housing director brought up... and I do understand the difference. However, an emotional support animal provides emotional support.... they don't meet the legal definition of service animal, but I (personally) lump them into the service animal category because they provide some sort of "service" to a person with a disability.

My issue w/ Housing is that my lease specifically says I can have a pet... it doesn't say "Tenant may have an emotional support animal" it says "Tenant may have a pet."

I know that this must seem petty... but I'm so aggravated as this is just one more thing.

Anyways, are you on IM or anything like that? I'd very much like to chat.

you can find me normally on any of the IM services listed in my userinfo.

I think I misunderstood your original comment. I thought they wouldn't let you have a pet because the pet wasn't allowed. Hence the use of ESA. But, now I think I'm even more confused. It says you can have a pet, but they want you to have a letter from your doctor? Oy!

The differences between therapy/emotional support/service animal had my head spinning. And if you start trying to figure out where who can go it gets worse. for me it became important to keep them all seperated so the terminologogy for legal purposes would be clear.

But, yes, I think an emotional support animal provides a service, but there is that distinction between what the animal does intrinsicaly versus what the animal was trained to do. Gotta love the people who make the laws.

Yup... the laws are weird!

I'm gonna look for you on IM somewhere so we can chat... probably easier to explain that way.

Hope you are well.
